We've been very fortunate to be able to travel so much in the last couple of years. Our time in Europe is coming to a close soon, so we wanted to take advantage of the Fall break and go somewhere very special. There aren't many places more magical than Edinburgh, Scotland! We took off to the Dusseldorf-Weeze Airport (affectionately referred to as Weezy by Brandon), and caught the plane.
After a little over an hour in the air, we found ourselves landing in the beautiful city of Edinburgh.
Our hotel rooms were a little tight, but we weren't there to sleep. We want to explore! Besides, the reason I chose this hotel was a combination of price and location. And you can't get a more perfect location than this. It's just off the middle of the Royal Mile, the most famous street in all of Edinburgh.
Who cares if the bathroom is tiny. It's clean and the water's hot, so we were happy campers.
It was rather late when we arrived at our hotel. The kids voted to relax and watch some TV (they were excited to find everything in English), so Russ and I hit the streets to explore the city. I couldn't believe we were really walking around the streets in Scotland.
We slowly made our way up the Royal Mile, admiring everything we came across.
Once we got to the top, the view was amazing, even at night. This is George Heriot's School. It's been educating children in the city for over 350 years. Can you imagine attending? It's like something out of Harry Potter.
This is what we really came to see, though. It's Edinburgh Castle. During the day, it's open to tours, but at night, it's a working military base. And it's huge. It was getting very late at this point, so we slowly made our way back down to the hotel and went to sleep. We had lots of exploring to do, so we definitely needed our rest. We're in Scotland!!!!!
